Drilling: The perils of being unprepared

Once upon a time, humans wouldn't have dreamt of drilling for oil a mile deep in the oceans. Nor would people have imagined hundreds of giant oil tankers and cargo ships pulling into our ports. Cruise ships big enough to hold thousands of tourists were unimaginable, as were fishing boats that pulled nets the size of a football field through our deep ocean to capture its bounty.
