A diplomatic event is generally not the kind of venue where the members of generation X and Y are conspicuous by their presence. These are occasions where seasoned, gray-haired diplomats hold court with their distinguished peers in the world of politics, business and academia over some equally mature and refined scotch, while their teenybopper or "young adult" offspring engage in decidedly more frivolous and whimsical pursuits.
