At the end of June, Wendy Hlamalani Mayimele departed from the South African High Commission, having served as Counsellor for three years. This was her first diplomatic posting. Before her Ottawa posting, she had served as a National Councillor for the South African Democratic Teachers Union, as a board member of the Akanani Development Association, and chaired the National Women's Coalition. From1994 to 1999, Ms. Mayimele was a Member of Parliament with the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly. She then joined the department of Foreign Affairs and was appointed to Ottawa in 2001. At the end of June, Ms. Mayimele returned to headquarters in Pretoria. The High Commission in Ottawa is expecting her replacement by the end of August.
