The Americas' Musical Ambassador

Published: Wednesday, 08/24/2005 12:00 am EDT

Uruguayan piano genius Polly Ferman will be performing at a special invitation-only concert on Aug. 25 organized by the Embassy of Uruguay as part of the country's Independence Day. Ms. Ferman will be covering all the masters: Ernesto Nazareth, Heitor Villalobos, Ariel Ramirez, Ernesto Lecuona, Luis C. Mortet, Roberto Lagarmilla, Daniel Binelli, Astor Piazzola and Alberto Ginastera. The Japan Times called Ms. Ferman "the musical ambassador of the Americas." She is known for her commitment to the music of South America, an area unjustly neglected on the world classical scene. As a soloist, she has toured with orchestras from Indianapolis, St. Petersburg, Jerusalem, Tokyo, Jarkow, the Philippines, the National Symphony of Argentina, and others. She was the only soloist selected to play at the Pan American Games of 1992. The concert promises to be a gem. See Listings for details.
