EU Leading Fight Against "Blood Diamonds"

The European Commission is to chair the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme in 2007, which seeks to combat the trade in conflict diamonds. The handover ceremony, held recently in Gaborone, saw the EU take the baton from outgoing chair Botswana. The Kimberley process is a concerted effort by government authorities, the international diamond industry and civil society to try and halt abuse within the industry.
