Murray Thomson was a student at the University of Toronto when the Second World War broke out. Like thousands of other young Canadian men, he left school and signed up with the air force. By 1944, a little older and slightly on the deaf side from flying noisy but reliable Harvard trainer planes, he had earned his wings.
