Omar Khadr: Pending Backlash on the Gamble

WASHINGTON—New reports that the White House has known for years that as many as 50 per cent of Guantanamo Bay military prison detainees are innocent will again draw attention to the imprisonment of Canadian Omar Khadr. While considerable evidence—including eyewitness accounts—points to Khadr's involvement in the killing of an American soldier, his long imprisonment in the infamous Guantanamo facility is a constant reminder of Canada's failure to properly advocate for its own citizens and could even become an issue in Canada-U.S. relations.
