The Real Treasure in Canada's Arctic

Twenty-one years ago last May, I landed on a floating ice pack over the North Pole and interviewed two Canadian adventurers who had managed to survive an unassisted trek from Canada's northernmost point to the pole. If nothing else, that wonderful assignment for the Montreal Gazette and a few other newspapers taught me that the True North has a life of its own that existed well outside the bounds of southern abstractions.
