Last week there was considerable fanfare in Ottawa as Prime Minister Stephen Harper hosted his Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk. The centerpiece of the visit took place at the scenic Meech Lake, just outside of the national capital. It was here that the two leaders announced a recently negotiated free trade agreement—one which Harper proclaimed will help Ukraine build its economy.
