WTO Here To Stay

RE: "A Slow But Steady Process" (Embassy, May 4). I believe most members of the political directorate within CARICOM do not understand the underlying principles of the WTO (most favoured nation, market access and national treatment) and the implications of the Schedule of Commitments signed under the GATS/GATT. The GATT regulated world trade in goods for 47 years, and now there is a new paradigm, the WTO, which has wider regulatory powers and supersedes all other regulatory trading bodies.
