It's Time for Electoral Reform in Canada

Published: Wednesday, 02/01/2006 12:00 am EST

Thank you very much for publishing the two articles on electoral reform in your most recent issue ("Electoral Reform" and "Two-Party Elections in a Multi-Party Country" Embassy, Jan. 25). This is an issue that I've been following for some time now and it's fantastic to see that it is beginning to receive the media coverage it deserves. For far too long now, Canadians have been stuck with an elections system that is inappropriate for the evolving multi-party political landscape in this country. Like in the case of New Zealand, there are many successful examples of how we can include an element of proportionality into our electoral system. It's time that we as Canadians examine our values and begin to discuss what types of electoral reforms would be appropriate for our country.
