Tory Aid Promise A Good Step

It is certainly true that the world's poor were neglected in the election campaign. However, Stephen Harper's pledge of an additional $425 million to foreign aid over the next five years, on top of the Canada's existing commitments, is a step in the right direction. With additional effort, the Conservatives can better the embarrassing performance of our previous government by committing Canada to join the majority of donor nations to reach the longstanding aid goal of 0.7 of GNI by 2015.
