NAFTA No Laughing Matter for Canadian Families: Julian

John Stewart, an economist at the U.S. Department of State, finds it laughable that NAFTA has proven a raw deal for Canadians (Re: "NDP's Julian Blames NAFTA for Non-Problems," Letters, June 20). While he giggles in his secure, well-paying job with the Americans, Canadians from coast to coast to coast are struggling with falling standards of living, the loss of well-paying jobs to outsourcing, unpaid or forced overtime, vulnerable social programs, the erosion of our national sovereignty, and a new culture in which multinational corporations can sue our democratically-elected governments for profit.
