After 12 years of trying to build peace in one of the world's most acrimonious regions, Terje Roed-Larsen became president of the International Peace Academy this January. The former UN envoy for the Middle East will be the keynote speaker, appearing by videoconference, at the eighth annual Peacebuilding and Human Security Consultations in Ottawa during its first session on Jan. 19. The theme of the conference is "War to Peace Transitions" and the Norwegian diplomat's talk follows closely behind the election of a brand-new Palestinian leader and a turning point for the peace process.
