The Embassy Q&A: Zimbabwe's Ambassador to Canada, Gabriel Machinga

Zimbabwe's Ambassador to Canada, Gabriel Machinga, has been in Ottawa since January 2001, following a 15-year stint as an MP with senior portfolios and, previously, a career as school teacher and principal. As his country heads into general elections on March 31, human rights advocates are sparking renewed pleas for international attention on the tactics of the ruling ZANU-PF regime. Mr. Machinga, a political appointee, sat down with Embassy on Feb. 15. The following is an edited transcript from that conversation:
