Following the vote of the European Parliament on April 13, Romania, along with its fellow candidate, Bulgaria, was given the green light to sign its accession treaty for eventual admission into the European Union. The treaties will be signed on April 25 in Brussels, with full membership anticipated to be granted on January 1, 2007. "After more than half a century, Romania is joining the European political family and it's a moment of great significance," Romania's Ambassador to Canada, Liviu Maior, told Embassy last Friday.
