The International Translation Program funded by the Canada Council for the Arts' writing and publishing section is a quiet success story. Although other Council activities, such as the annual grants competition for professional writers, and the Governor-General's Literary Awards, enjoy much higher profiles, this comparatively tiny program has grown from its inception in 1987 to become an integral component of Canadian literature's worldwide success.
