Correspondants in Canada on the Verge of Extinction

There's not many people like Doug Struck in Canada anymore. Mr. Struck is a foreign journalist based in Toronto (specifically at the Washington Post's Canada bureau), part of a small circle of correspondents from international media outlets sending stories home from Canada. Just last month, Time magazine became the latest American publication to close its Canadian bureau, due mainly to financial pressure, says Mr. Struck, who's been in Toronto since Sept. 2004.
