Diplomats Attempt to Resolve Soccer Brawl

A controversial German soccer referee set off a series of events that caught up the Toronto police, Chile's adored under-20 soccer team and a media storm in Chile–and ended in a diplomatic incident.

The Embassy of Chile lodged a formal complaint with officials at the Department of Foreign Affairs over the treatment of players by police after a match last week between Chile and Argentina during the FIFA U-20 World Cup, said Eduardo Tapia, minister counsellor at the mission.
