Russia's Hands-Off Approach to Latin America

Like Canada, Russia wants to see a strong, democratic hemisphere, says official Yan Burliay, but it won't risk meddling in countries' internal affairs.

Russia has the same objectives in Latin America as Canada, namely encouraging free and open markets, supporting democracy and ensuring security against organized crime, drugs and terrorists, said a senior Russian foreign ministry official last week.
