The souring economy is hitting Cuba hard, straining the government's financial arrangements with two Canadian companies, Sherritt and Pebercan. Meanwhile, the Harper Government is criticized for backing away from Canada's friendly relationship with the island.

Tough economic times and plummeting commodity prices have forced Canadian businesses in Cuba to scale back expenditures and are leading to tense negotiations with the country's administration, sources have told Embassy.
