This week and next, Canada has the great honour and privilege of hosting Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan on the auspicious occasion of the 80th anniversary of the opening of Canada's first diplomatic mission to Japan, and the 100th anniversary of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. Their Majesties will have the opportunity to meet many Canadians, including representatives of the Japanese-Canadian community. For the nearly 100,000 Canadians of Japanese ancestry living across the country, and indeed for all Japanese and Canadians alike, this visit is a tribute to the warmth and importance of the Canada-Japan relationship.
