The recent global financial crisis has signalled a major shift in the way the world operates. Seemingly gone is Western economic and political dominance, with a great deal of power on both fronts having shifted from North America and Europe to an emerging Asia, in particular. The G8 has been largely replaced by the G20, and most of the world is struggling to get a grip on this new reality.
