Military not likely to see conflict in the Arctic

We cannot download expectations and responsibilities on the Canadian Forces for which they do not have the requisite mandate.

There exists the optics of a perfect storm of opportunity brewing in the Arctic. Climate change, possible "conflict" with neighbouring states, promises of new ships, planes and ports, highly trained and professional soldiers with unlimited liability (handy in a region as unforgiving as the North) and the supposed need for our military to be engaged in a new "theatre" of operation now that our combat mission in Afghanistan has ended.
