Refugee bill widens safe-country net

New criteria could mean rejected asylum claims from Mexico, Tunisia, India, and Hungary are denied appeals.

A proposed refugee law introduced earlier this month widens the net further than previous legislation so more countries could be designated as "safe"—meaning more asylum claims to Canada could be fast-tracked, with no access to appeals.
