The United Church brings difficult Israeli-Palestinian issue back into the mainstream

The fact that the church dared to approach one of the thorniest and perhaps emotion-laden public policy issues for Canada and most other Western countries is significant.

Nearly 400 delegates gathered last week at the United Church of Canada’s general council meeting. An overwhelming majority decided to support a boycott of goods from the illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank—a decision that was significant in four important ways.
