On Jan. 3 the Nigerian militant Islamic group Boko Haram launched a series of attacks in northeast Nigeria in and around the town of Baga. The Nigerian government has said 150 people were killed in the attacks, but humanitarian organizations are estimating that up to 2,000 were killed. The group continued its rampage this week, with abductions in neighbouring Cameroon.
