In light of last week's mutual ceasefire declaration by Israeli and Palestinian leaders, there are clear signs of hope; Israel's defense ministry ordered an end to the policy of demolishing the houses of Palestinian suicide bombers and their families. Israel's Knesset approved a compensation plan for settlers who leave Gaza in order to pave the way for the government's disengagement plan. From recent accounts, Israel appears willing to give Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas some leeway in curbing attacks on Israelis. A spokesperson from the Foreign Ministry of Israel said that Mr. Abbas is seen as a "partner in peace."
