The G8, comprising the world's richest nations, is arguably the most influential grouping that Canada belongs to. As a result, a major objective for the Harper government has been to ensure the G8 doesn't get rolled into the G20. If that happens, the feeling is that Canada's international clout, already waning from a proliferation of new global actors, will suffer.
