Pelting rain didn’t stop the New Zealand High Commission from holding a flag-raising ceremony outside its new Elgin Street office building on Oct. 17. Participants warmed up afterward with afternoon tea in the new chancery on the 14th floor.

The Dutch Embassy paid tribute to Canadian soldiers involved in the liberation of the Netherlands in the Second World War, as part of the launch of a lecture series. The event was hosted in collaboration with the Canadian War Museum at the museum on Oct. 16.

The Peruvian Embassy hosted a lunch on Oct. 8 at the Chateau Laurier in celebration of the 135th anniversary of the naval battle of Angamos and in honour of Peruvian naval officer Don Miguel Grau Seminario, who died during the conflict.

South Korean Ambassador Cho Hee-Yong hosted a reception at the Chateau Laurier on Oct. 3 to mark Korea’s national day and armed forces day.

Algerian Ambassador Smail Benamara hosted a reception on Sept. 29 at the Chateau Laurier in honour of visiting Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra.

House Speaker Andrew Scheer, along with the founder of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Neil Turok, and AIMS global secretariat president and CEO Thierry Zomahoun, hosted a reception on Oct. 1 in the Speaker’s Salon on Parliament Hill to celebrate the Canadian government’s contribution to the AIMS Next Einstein Initiative.

German Ambassador Werner Wnendt and his wife Eleonore Wnendt-Juber hosted a reception at their home on Oct. 2 to mark the Day of German Unity.

The Mongolian Embassy and others hosted a vernissage of an exhibition of Mongolian art on Sept. 22 at the Arts Court theatre. The exhibition also toured Montreal and Toronto.

More than $6,000 was raised for the national capital region Military Family Resource Centre, Soldier On and the Military Families Fund.
