Austrian Ambassador Arno Riedel hosted a reception at his home on June 30 to bid farewell to his deputy head of mission, Ulrike Butschek.

French Ambassador Nicolas Chapuis hosted a cocktail party in the garden outside his embassy on July 14 to mark France’s national day.

Swedish Ambassador Per Sjögren hosted a reception on June 18 at his home to bid farewell to his deputy, David Lunderquist, and Mr. Lunderquist’s spouse, Hedvig. 

South African High Commissioner Membathisi Mdladlana, in collaboration with the South African Department of Arts and Culture and the Ottawa Jazz Festival, hosted a reception at Ottawa City Hall on June 24 to celebrate South African jazz performers at the festival, which wrapped up July 1. 

US Ambassador Bruce Heyman and his wife Vicki hosted a Motor City Rising-themed garden party at their home, Lornado, to mark American independence day on July 4.

To mark Hungary’s chairmanship of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance in 2015, Hungarian Ambassador Bálint Ódor hosted a concert, Remembering Through Music, featuring bands playing Jewish and Klezmer music. It took place June 15 at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau.

Slovenian Ambassador Marjan Cencen hosted a reception at Ottawa City Hall on June 17 to mark 24 years of Slovenian independence.

To mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between their countries, the ambassadors of Israel and Germany hosted a concert by the Klezmer band Di Meschugeles at the German ambassador’s home on June 10 as part of the German Embassy’s KulturGarten 2015 cultural week.

The heads of mission of Caribbean Community countries in Canada hosted a reception on June 17 at Ottawa City Hall to mark the 42nd anniversary of the establishment of CARICOM.

Japan’s new ambassador, Kenjiro Monji, and his wife, Etsuko, hosted a reception on the occasion of their arrival in Canada, on June 16 at their home.

The third in a series of charity hockey fundraisers, the Esprit de Corps Commandos and the General Officers and Flag Officers of the Canadian Armed Forces faced off on June 19 at the University of Ottawa’s Minto Sports Complex. They raised more than $7,500 for the national capital region Military Family Resource Centre.

The Ottawa Symphony Orchestra hosted its 27th annual Fête Champêtre fundraiser at the home of German Ambassador Werner Wnendt and his wife, Eleonore Wnendt-Juber, on June 11. 

The ambassador of Switzerland, Beat Nobs, hosted a garden reception on June 16 at his home to mark the Swiss national day.

The Guatemalan Embassy and community members, alongside the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México en Canadá, hosted a reception to open an exhibition, Guatemalan Huipiles, Weavings of a Living Culture, a collection by Cecilia Diaz, on June 15 at UNAM-Canada in Gatineau, Que. The exhibition ran until June 25. 

Slovak Ambassador Andrej Droba hosted a reception at his embassy on June 9 to bid farewell to deputy head of mission Martin Barton and trade commissioner Ján Galoci. 

Russian Ambassador Alexander Darchiev and his wife Tamilya A. Akhmetanova hosted a reception on June 11 at their embassy to mark Russia’s national day.

Norwegian Ambassador Mona Elisabeth Brøther hosted a reception on June 8 at her home to welcome the Norwegian national soccer team, which participated in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada. The team made it to the round of 16 before losing to England on June 22. 

Mexican Ambassador Francisco Suárez Dávila hosted a breakfast on June 15 at his home in honour of the Mexican national soccer team participating in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada. 

Sturla Sigurjónsson, ambassador of Iceland, and his wife, Elín Jónsdóttir, hosted a reception on June 17 at their home to mark Iceland’s national day. 

Members of European and Pacific Alliance foreign diplomatic missions participated in the 2015 Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival on June 27.
