Maria Yeganian, spouse of the Armenian ambassador, hosted an evening of music for members of the International Women’s Club of Ottawa on Feb. 11 at her home, featuring two Armenian-Canadian singers. 

WaterAid Canada presented its Auction of Nations in support of cleaning drinking water for people in the developing world, hosted by French Ambassador Nicolas Chapuis at his home on Feb. 12.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was the guest of honour at a reception at the Rideau Club on Feb. 18 celebrating 40 years of European Union presence in Canada.

Several diplomatic missions took part in On the Rocks: In the Caribbean, an Ottawa Art Gallery Winterlude event celebrating the sights, sounds and flavours of the Caribbean, at Ottawa City Hall on Feb. 5.

The Rotary Club of Ottawa hosted a reception on Feb. 2 at Ottawa City Hall to raise money for Syrian refugees. 

Hau Do Suan, ambassador of Myanmar, and his wife, Nwe Nwe Aye, hosted a reception on Feb. 1 at Ottawa City Hall to mark Myanmar’s Independence Day. 

Mexican Ambassador Agustín García-López Loaeza and his wife, Katya Anaya de García-López, hosted a reception on Feb. 3 at their home to celebrate his presentation of credentials.

Australian High Commissioner Tony Negus hosted a reception to mark Australia Day at the Museum of History on Jan. 26. 

European Union Ambassador Marie-Anne Coninsx on Jan. 30 unveiled an ice sculpture celebrating 40 years of the European Union’s official presence in Canada, as part of Winterlude activities. The winter celebration runs until Feb. 15. 

The Canadian Federation University Women’s Ottawa Diplomatic Hospitality Group hosted a learn-to-curl event at the Navy Curling Club on Jan. 27. 

The Esprit de Corps Commandos faced the Canadian Armed Forces General Officers and Flag Officers hockey team for a charity fundraiser on Jan. 28 at the University of Ottawa arena. The Military Family Resource Centre of the national capital region received $4,380 raised at the event. The Commandos beat the GOFOs 5-2.

Cuban Ambassador Julio Garmendía and his spouse, Miraly González, hosted a reception to mark Cuba’s national day on Jan. 28 at Lansdowne Park’s Horticulture Building.

Romanian Ambassador Maria Ligor hosted a reception on Jan. 29 at her embassy to bid farewell to Albanian Ambassador Elida Petoshati. 

The International Women’s Club of Ottawa hosted an evening of Inuit culture at the home of the Eleonore Wnendt, spouse of the German ambassador, on Jan. 21. 

 

Friends gathered to wish farewell to Argentine Minister Gerardo Bompadre and his wife Silvia on Jan. 20.
