Malawi HC Closing

Published: Wednesday, 09/21/2005 12:00 am EDT

On Sept. 30, Malawi will close its high commission in Ottawa because of financial constraints. "We are looking at it as a temporary measure," said Kennedy Malista, the High Commissioner. Mr. Malista said Malawi will keep all its property in Ottawa, which includes the chancery, official residence of the high commissioner and three houses until financial conditions improve to enable the re-establishment of diplomatic ties. For now, the Malawian embassy in the U.S. will look after visa issues for Canadian residents.
