'Breach of Faith'

Prime Minister Paul Martin hardened his stance on the softwood lumber trade dispute with the United States, suggesting Canada may find customers in India and China. In an address to the Economic Club of New York last week, Mr. Martin delivered his toughest words yet on the U.S. refusal to repay $5 billion in illegal duties it has collected over several years. "Forgive my sudden departure from the safe language of diplomacy, but this is nonsense," said Mr. Martin. "More than that, it's a breach of faith."
