Farm Subsidy Cuts

International Trade Minister Jim Peterson and Agriculture Minister Andy Mitchell released a joint statement this week after meetings of the World Trade Organization in Zurich, Switzerland. The Ministers offered cautious praise to the European Union and the United States on "new ideas" to reduce domestic support to agriculture producers. The Associated Press reported this week that the U.S. and EU are offering to cut farm subsidies significantly, a major development in moving ahead the global trade talks.
