Saul Talks Globalism

Published: Wednesday, 10/12/2005 12:00 am EDT

Globalism is not free trade. What the West meant by globalization was an international market place centred in the West. When this market place began to be centred elsewhere, the West instituted protectionism, said John Ralston Saul in a lecture at the National Press Club on Oct.3. Mr. Saul also said new economic ideologies such as globalization only last 25 to 50 years. He predicted that globalization will also unravel as time passes. About 60 diplomats, including Ross Campbell -- his friend and mentor--came to hear him speak.
