About 106 election observers from Canada will travel to Haiti to monitor elections re-scheduled for Feb. 7 from Jan. 8. The observers who are being sent by CANADEM, a non-profit organization dedicated to human rights and democracy, are slated to travel by Jan. 31. Paul LaRose-Edwards, Executive Director of CANADEM, said the observers are expected to stay for at least a week. However, he added that more details about the trip will be released next week. Elections in Haiti have been cancelled at least four times in the past because of organizational difficulties. Last week the UN issued a strong statement urging Haiti's politicians not to delay elections again.
