Taking Over from Kofi

The very trying task of selecting the world's top diplomat is informally underway as the United Nations prepares to replace Secretary General Kofi Annan when he steps down in late 2006 after two consecutive five-year terms. All things staying the same in the state of world affairs, the choice of his successor will be one of the most important decisions taken by the Security Council this year.
