Energy, Security Expected to Top G8 Summit Priorities

Published: Wednesday, 06/21/2006 12:00 am EDT

Russian Ambassador Georgiy Mamedov said he expects energy and global security to top the agenda at next month's G8 summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. With the arrest of 17 suspected terrorists in Toronto earlier this month, Mr. Mamedov is hopeful Canada will be "a new partner" with Russia in fighting terrorism by expanding intelligence sharing and co-operation. In addition, with Canada and Russia "breastfeeding" the rest of the world with its vast sources of energy, "it will also be an opportunity to discuss energy security."
