Canadians in Foreign Elections

A multi-department study has been set up to look at the practice of allowing Canadian residents to run as candidates in foreign elections. Then-foreign affairs minister Pierre Pettigrew permitted Italian-Canadians to take part in Italy's recent election, a decision considered an exception, not a precedent. Foreign Affairs, Citizenship and Immigration, Justice and Elections Canada will take part in this study by Canadian Heritage.
