Diomande Walks Free

After spending over a year in sanctuary in an Ottawa church, Maoua Diomande has been granted a minister's permit to stay in Canada and can now apply for landed immigrant status. Ms. Diomande fled C√¥te d'Ivoire in 2001 and settled in Ottawa, but was refused refugee status. Liberal MP Mauril Bélanger helped her file a complaint that her refugee hearing was in English, despite her first language being French.
