Seeking Assurances

Canada wants guarantees from Israel and Lebanon not to attack six evacuation ships sent to pick Canadians caught in the recent conflict, said Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay. The ships are expected to ferry 4,500 Canadians to Cyprus and Turkey each day. However, there are still no evacuation plans for Canadians stranded in the south of Lebanon, where access roads to the Lebanese capital of Beirut have been destroyed by bombing by the Israeli airforce.
