Measuring the Shelf

Published: Wednesday, 07/26/2006 12:00 am EDT

Fisheries Minister Loyola Hearn announced last week that Canada will be undertaking a survey of the continental shelf on the Atlantic Ocean floor off Newfoundland and Labrador. "This will give Canada undisputed international recognition for our sovereign rights over the seabed resources [including seafood, oil and gas] in the areas beyond our 200-mile limit," said Mr. Hearn in a press release. The survey runs from July to September 2006.
