Castro Steps Aside

Cuban president Fidel Castro has temporarily handed power to his brother Ra√∫l Castro Ruz yesterday. Ra√∫l will head the Communist Party and will also be commander-in-chief of the Cuban armed forces as Fidel undergoes surgery for an intestinal ailment. Cuba watchers expect an eventual success by Ra√∫l to be backed up by the troika of Foreign Minister Félipe Pérez Roque (above), Assembly President Ricardo Alarc√≥n and Economic Chief Carlos Lage.
