Oil Slick Recovery

The Canadian International Development Agency is providing $2 million to a UN-sponsored Lebanese recovery program to help clean up a major oil spill off the Lebanese coast. Canada is paying for a helicopter to survey the area and an expert from Environment Canada has been sent to the region. Almost 15,000 tonnes of oil spilled from a power plant into the Mediterranean Sea during last month's fighting between Hezbollah and Israel.
