Czech Accountant Accused

Published: Wednesday, 09/13/2006 12:00 am EDT

The Canadian Embassy in Prague's chief accountant, a Czech citizen, faces charges of embezzlement, reports the Czech News Agency. Czech police allege that the 31-year-old accountant illegally withdrew almost $900,000 from Canadian embassy accounts between 1998-1999. The RCMP originally investigated the case, but handed it over to Czech police when the accused turned out to be non-Canadian. The man is pleading not guilty.
