Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama was in Vancouver last week to establish his first namesake educational centre, the Dalai Lama Centre for Peace and Education, saying the facility is "purely educational, not political." Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter, former Czech president Vaclav Havel and South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu are among the centre's advisory board. Vancouver was chosen for the centre's location due to the city's multi-ethnic character.
