Brazil into New Century

Published: Wednesday, 01/31/2007 12:00 am EST

"Brazil is growing, but it is growing slowly," said Brazilian Ambassador Valdemar Carneiro Leao at last week's Ambassador's Roundtable at Carleton University. Mr. Leao noted that Brazil has adopted a sound macroeconomic policy and attracted nearly $100 billion (US) dollars in foreign direct investment between 2001 and 2005, second only after China among emerging economies. Speaking on the integration of South America and Venezuela's Mercosur membership, he said that each country has a right to choose its own development path.
