Census Shows Immigrants Key

Immigrants are responsible for Canada having the highest population growth rate among G8 countries, according to data released yesterday from the 2006 Census. Between 2001-2006, Canada's population grew by 5.4 per cent, with 1.6 million immigrants helped boost Canada's population of 31,612,897. An average 240,000 newcomers per year more than compensated for Canada's flat fertility rate.
