War Crimes Trial Begins

Canada's first war crime trial got underway in Montreal on Monday as Désiré Munyaneza of Rwanda faced seven charges under Canada's Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act. Senator Roméo Dallaire (above), who led UN peacekeepers in Rwanda during the 1994 genocide, is on the Crown's witness list. Mr. Munyaneza was arrested in Toronto in October 2005 and could face life in prison if found guilty.
